In the premiere episode of T1D Stories, Adrian Gonzalez sits down with a very special guest — his daughter, Hannah — to talk about her journey living with type 1 diabetes since being diagnosed at age 11. From the fear and uncertainty of diagnosis to running marathons, playing rugby, mentoring a young girl with T1D, and riding in the Breakthrough T1D Ride, Hannah shares a powerful story of resilience, perspective, and living life without limits.
A Meaningful Moment from the Episode
When Hannah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 11, she had never even heard of the disease. Looking back, she shares what that moment felt like — and what would have made all the difference.
“I just remember thinking I was going to die. That’s all I was thinking….All I knew was that I didn’t have this thing called insulin anymore, and that sounded really bad.
“What little Hannah needed was to see that she wasn’t the only one [with this disease] — and that diabetes did not mean the end of the life she wanted to live.”
